Definition of
unpatriotized position
-
All patriotic messages are contrasted with an
unpatriotized element.
For
patriotized morality, the
unpatriotized element
is the
unpatriotized position.
-
The
unpatriotized position
is
a hypothetical statement of
what would have been said in a particular context if the actor in the story had not been the US. This term only applies to situations where the patriotic message was an expression of preference for the US or one of identity with the US government. Usually an unpatriotized position means simply no expression of preference at all, or no claim of identity at all. For example, a news article might inform us that it favors the US government in one of its invasions, or that we the readers should do so, or that successful actions by US targets are "unfortunate" or "ominous". This is a message (of patriotized morality). The corresponding unpatriotized position is what the news story would have said if it were the mere factual report it claims to be. It would not express any preference at all.
The question of recurrent items in this diagram element category
The
unpatriotized element
is not one of the diagram element categories for which there is a small set of items that are used over and over, so we don't provide a list of them here.
While there are certain
events that tend to be changed or removed from
patriotic messages, the set is huge.
Although there are certain events that get changed or removed over and over in texts about any one country in any one time, there are many countries where the US has done things at many different times, so the list is still very long. In future we may provide a partial list of these types of events,
organized by country and time. Meanwhile, for people who are interested in recurrent
unpatriotized elements, we suggest looking at the lists of
patriotic changes, because the different examples of any one
patriotic change will
often show similar
unpatriotized elements.
