Definition of
direct claim
In this technique, the
text comes right out and states the message as an assertion, as something that
the author is claiming to be true.
This technique is weak. It effectively invites questioning and argument. It would be much more effective to treat the message, the patriotic falsehood, as a given, as something that we all already understand to be true. This would focus attention off of it, and in many cases would cause it to slip into people's minds unquestioned, as a component of their basic understanding of the world.
